Going through my head constantly since seeing them in Chester. Wouldn’t be the same though without the “Ey up!”

This past month the Spokane boat dealerships have had a big sale at the arena. They have been advertising it with one of the worst jingles ever; "Only in a Boat, Only in a Boat, Only in a Boat," I caught Mrs Gramps humming the tune as she is making spaghetti this evening.

"Blest are they the poor in spirit" is now lodged in my head after learning it for Sunday.

My most recent is refiners fire, must be over twenty years since I sang it and until it started bugging me as long since I heard it.

You've not got a URL there. If it's the one I'm thinking off I think I probably only first sang it a little over 20 years ago.

  • Theme from the Godfather, which happened because of a spooky moment in Milsom St, Bath, where an old saxophonist was playing it. So gorgeous.

Two weeks ago I drove the entire two-hour seven-minute journey from Portsmouth to East London with one line of a song on repeat in my brain. Quite aptly "Time goes by, so slowly" from Madonna's 'Hook up'. Literally, two hours and seven minutes with five words on repeat.

At the end of this journey I discovered that four members of my extended family had never heard of the term 'earworm'. I asked them what word they would use for this phenomenon and they replied, "song that gets stuck in your brain on repeat". Fair enough.

I woke up this morning with a song from my idealistic youth going round in my head. It's still there - perhaps it's a sign for the times. 'Last Night I Dreamed the Strangest Dream'. I think I'm hearing Joan Baez! Time for some googling.

Well yes - the sound of it is something quite atrocious.

True, but if you say it loud enough you’ll always sound precocious.

I’m suddenly thinking of The Dr. Who song by Blood Donor
 “I had a strange dream

Or perhaps Pete Singer or the Weavers? Or the Kingston Trio or the Chad Mitchell Trio? Or Simon and Garfunkel or ArlonGuthrie? They all recorded it.

The Weavers is who I associate it with.

This was in my head for some time today, the Captain Kangaroo theme from the early 1970s:

I've got The Land of the Mountain and the Flood by Hamish McCunn* (see my recent post on the British thread in AS for how it got there).

    * Brits of a certain age might remember it as the theme music from a series called Sutherland's Law in the 1970s.
